POLITICAL SCIENCE

WHAT IS POLITICAL SCIENCE?

Political science focuses on the theory and practice of government and politics at the local, state, national, and international levels. We are dedicated to developing understandings of institutions, practices, and relations that constitute public life. Some of the major sub-fields are: Political Theory, Comparative Politics, International Relations, American Government and Politics, and Political Methodology.

ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE

Environmental justice is defined as the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies (USEPA, 2017). In partnership with leading environmental justice organizations, our Department of SBSHS of Broward College North Campus is organizing the annual Environmental Justice Fair and Symposium (EJFS) during the Spring semester that aims to educate and raise awareness among students and the general public about different environmental justice issues which affect local communities.

During the EJFS, various political, environmental, and environmental justice organizations participate in tabling and panel discussions on the thematic issues. This way, the event provides attendees a chance to engage with those organizations and exchange information and talk about efforts being done to alleviate environmental problems and show how policies impact people.

The first two EJFS were done in close partnership with Earthjustice, a leading national environmental justice organization, and following videos show parts of panel discussions:
